Designing Florida’s next teacher bonuses

Florida’s education budget is usually bare to the bone, so it is particularly foolish to give bonuses to teachers partially based on their SAT scores back in high school. Thankfully, the State Board of Education wants to stop squandering millions that could be better spent training and rewarding teachers who are achieving exceptional results with their students today. Now that the board wants to move away from this flawed scheme, the trick is to create a sensible plan to spend the money on teachers who have the most to give their students. Board members don’t want to renew the $49 million “Best and Brightest” program and would rather spend a similar amount of money to recruit and retain teachers. Story continues HERE
