It’s exciting to be a founding member of our new professional educators’ organization in Santa Rosa County!” New Santa Rosa EA member Christy Wolpoff couldn’t contain her enthusiasm as she hosted the first Santa Rosa EA signing party at Woodlawn Beach Middle School. “We all want to continue our affiliation with Florida Education Association; it keeps us connected to the other teachers in Florida. FEA also connects us to both of the two national teacher organizations: NEA/AFT!”
Our goal is to speak with every clerical and paraprofessional classroom ESP and teacher in Santa Rosa County to encourage involvement in Santa Rosa EA. We already have our 1st two brand new members! We are going to make sure that every new employee is greeted by a current member who can demonstrate and encourage involvement in Santa Rosa EA. We want to build a strong healthy professional organization where members share their individual talents for a united cause. Everyone’s voice counts in Santa Rosa EA.
Christy was joined at the after school Friday afternoon party by a large group of Woodlawn Beach faculty, all of whom were pleased to be able to join the newly recognized Santa Rosa EA. Among those attending were Ben Smith and Jackie Brown who are waiting for the PERC hearing on the Unfair Labor Practice charges they filed with PERC. They filed the charges because they believe the members of SRPE should have had a vote in whether to maintain its state and national affiliations, asserting that all employees covered by the Master Contract should have had a vote in the matter of affiliation.
Tony Gentile, Central Panhandle Service Unit Director was on hand to meet some of the Santa Rosa EA members he’ll be servicing. “It’s good to have Tony here so we can start building the partnership we need with our CPSU staff. I’m looking forward to collaborating with teachers in other Santa Rosa schools and other CPSU unions.”
